Afghanistan’s prolonged socio-political instability has profoundly impacted the mental well-being of its population, with significant gender disparities in mental health outcomes.
A 2024 survey by the United Nations highlights that nearly 70% of Afghan women reported increased feelings of anxiety, isolation, and depression between April and June—a sharp rise from 57% earlier in the year. These deteriorating conditions were attributed to restrictions on women’s freedoms and limited access to education and employment, further exacerbating their mental health challenges (PBS NewsHour, 2024).
This data underscores the critical need to address mental health challenges, particularly among women, through targeted interventions and expanded support services. To foster resilience and improve the mental well-being of women and youth, AWDREO provides Psychosocial Counseling and Prescription-Based Therapy to vulnerable individuals. These efforts have reached 14,000 people, significantly improving their lives.
